Independence is a 20-minute drive from central Kansas City. Some of our favorite neighborhoods include the River Market, Columbus Park, South Plaza, Westside, and the Crossroads.

Eat & Drink

You can find just about any type of cuisine in the KC area. Vietnam Cafe and Anna's Oven are two of our favorite dinner spots. Does Succotash or You Say Tomato have the better breakfast? We've been trying to figure this out for years.

We can't talk about KC without mentioning its wonderful coffee scene. There are simply too many amazing places to mention, so we'll leave it to this article to provide a list.

The Country Club Plaza is a popular shopping destination in Kansas City. It's also home to more than 30 statues, murals, and tile mosaics.

The City Market, located in the River Market district, hosts a public farmers' market Saturday from 7am-3pm and Sunday from 9am-3pm. Visit the City Market for fresh flowers, popup flea markets, baked goods, and the Arabia Steamboat Museum.

Like parks? Head to Loose Park. Like museums? Check out the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art or Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. Like roller coasters? Worlds of Fun is open on the weekends in October.

Book lover? Us, too. You can't go wrong with Prospero's Books on 39th Street.
